Naan
Ingredients
- ¾ cup warm water
- 1 tsp active yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp salt
- ¾ tsp baking powder
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- ¼ tsp ground cumin
- 3 Tbsp plain dairy-free yogurt
- 2 Tbsp olive or avocado oil
- Coriander
Steps
- Add yeast and sugar to warm water. Stir and set aside about 10 minutes.
- Add flour, salt, and baking powder to a large mixing bowl and whisk to combine.
- Once yeast is foaming, add yogurt and oil and stir to combine.
- Add to dry ingredients and use a fork to mix - the dough will be sticky.
- On a lightly floured surface gently knead for 5 turns and form into a loose ball.
- Place back in mixing bowl and rub with a bit more oil and turn to coat.
- Cover set in a warm place for at least 2 hours (up to 4 hours).
- Knead on a floured surface for 30 seconds then divide into six even pieces.
- Lightly knead each ball then set on a clean surface. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes.
- Begin heating a pan. Roll out dough into an oval. Flip over and pat the dough with a bit of water.
- Press the garlic and coriander onto the other side. Then place the wet-side down on the hot pan.
- Cook until edges of the dough look dry and it starts to bubble. Flip the dough and cook until the underside is dark brown.
