Nori-wrapped tofu
Ingredients
- 400g extra firm tofu
- 2 nori sheets
- 5 gloves garlic
- 1 cup water
- 2 tbsp soy sauce or to taste
- ½ to 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp chilli garlic sauce
- ½ tsp szechuan peppercorns
- 1 tsp doubanjiang
- 1 tsp roasted sesame seeds
- 1 tsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp corn starch
- Rice
- Pak choi
Steps
- Drain and press tofu.
- Clean and cook the rice.
- Slice the tofu into rectangles, around 2cm thick. Sprinkle some salt over the tofu.
- Mix ingredients from water to rice vinegar in a bowl.
- Cut the nori sheets into 1” thick pieces. Carefully wrap each piece of tofu with the nori.
- Cover the frying pan surface in oil and heat until sizzling.
- Place the tofu in the pan. Fry on each side until golden brown. Drain the excess oil.
- In pan cook the garlic then add the sauce. Stir and leave to simmer until the sauce boils.
- While stirring the sauce, add in the cornstarch slurry. Leave to simmer until the sauce thickens.
- Add the tofu and pak choi. Leave to cook until the pak choi is done.
