Ingredients

  • 300g all-purpose flour
  • 4g yeast
  • 175g warm water
  • 150g spring onions
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 4 tbsp cooking oil
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Pinch of five spice
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp oat milk
  • Sesame seeds

Steps

  1. Place all-purpose flour in a bowl then sprinkle yeast on top.
  2. Using chopsticks slowly add the water while stirring until there are no dry spots of flour left.
  3. Knead into a soft dough. Cover with a moist towel. Let it proof about 30-35 minutes.
  4. Add flour to a bowl and heat the oil. Carefully pour the oil into the bowl with flour.
  5. Stir to combine into a paste and let it cool.
  6. Preheat the oven to 245C.
  7. Dust the work surface with flour. Roll the dough into a large rectangle roughly 3mm thick.
  8. Spread ⅔ of the oil paste over and place the chopped spring onions in the middle third of the dough.
  9. Gently press green onions to adhere.
  10. Flip one side over to cover the spring onions. Then, spread the remaining oil paste and green onions on top.
  11. Bring the top part over to cover and then pinch to seal all the openings.
  12. Flip it over so the seamed side is facing down.
  13. Whisk maple syrup and milk together until incorporated.
  14. Brush the dough with a layer of wash. Then, pack the top with sesame seeds.
  15. Cut into 6 equal portions and transfer to a baking tray, 1-inch apart.
  16. Bake for 12 minutes until golden brown.
