Ingredients

  • 800g firm tofu
  • 2 green peppers, sliced
  • 2 onions, roughly sliced
  • 6 spring onion, diagonally sliced
  • 6 tbsp cornstarch
  • 4 tbsp soy sauce
  • 4 tbsp mirin
  • 4 tbsp sake
  • 4 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp garlic paste
  • 4 portions cooked rice
  • sesame seeds
  • Finely chopped green onion
  • Chilli oil

Steps

  1. Drain and press the tofu. Once done pat dry with a paper towel and cut into cubes.
  2. Heat wok on medium with oil. Fry bell pepper until slightly softened.
  3. Add the onion and spring onion whites and until lightly charred, set aside.
  4. In a bowl add cornstarch and season with salt and pepper. Toss tofu in mixture.
  5. Heat the pan with oil and cook the tofu in a single layer, in batches if necessary. Cook until golden brown.
  6. In a small bowl mix soy sauce, mirin, sake, sugar and 1 tbsp garlic paste until well combined.
  7. Add all the tofu to the wok. Pour the sauce into the pan and mix to coat.
  8. Add the vegetables back, mix in the the sauce and heat through.
  9. Add rice to bowl, top with tofu and vegetables then sprinkle with sesame seeds, spring onions and chilli oil.
