Tofu donburi
Ingredients
- 800g firm tofu
- 2 green peppers, sliced
- 2 onions, roughly sliced
- 6 spring onion, diagonally sliced
- 6 tbsp cornstarch
- 4 tbsp soy sauce
- 4 tbsp mirin
- 4 tbsp sake
- 4 tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp garlic paste
- 4 portions cooked rice
- sesame seeds
- Finely chopped green onion
- Chilli oil
Steps
- Drain and press the tofu. Once done pat dry with a paper towel and cut into cubes.
- Heat wok on medium with oil. Fry bell pepper until slightly softened.
- Add the onion and spring onion whites and until lightly charred, set aside.
- In a bowl add cornstarch and season with salt and pepper. Toss tofu in mixture.
- Heat the pan with oil and cook the tofu in a single layer, in batches if necessary. Cook until golden brown.
- In a small bowl mix soy sauce, mirin, sake, sugar and 1 tbsp garlic paste until well combined.
- Add all the tofu to the wok. Pour the sauce into the pan and mix to coat.
- Add the vegetables back, mix in the the sauce and heat through.
- Add rice to bowl, top with tofu and vegetables then sprinkle with sesame seeds, spring onions and chilli oil.
